A Venezuelan illegal immigrant shot and killed by an off-duty FBI agent in Chicago Monday night had previously been caught and released at the southern border during the Biden administration, multiple federal law enforcement sources told Fox News. The man, identified by federal sources as 27-year-old Oscar D. Corrales, was firing a gun toward people in a homeless encampment when the off-duty FBI agent encountered him, according to the sources. The agent was driving alone when he spotted Corrales shooting toward the encampment, sources said. The agent got out of his car and shot and killed Corrales.
Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News Corrales was apprehended at the southern border in October 2023 and subsequently released into the United States during the Biden administration. Corrales also had a previous arrest in California, where he was released from custody despite an ICE detainer, according to the sources. The circumstances of that arrest, including the charges Corrales faced and which California jurisdiction released him, were not immediately available.
