The illegal alien suspected of decapitating the Iwo Jima memorial near Marine Corps Base Quantico in Quantico, Virginia, was granted bond. Prince William County Circuit Court Chief Judge Petula Metzler on Monday set bond at $2,500 for Miguel Alonso Maldonado Soriano, a 27-year-old man charged in the sledgehammer attack that removed the head from one of the limestone figures on the memorial. It was disclosed during the Monday hearing that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had lodged a detainer against Maldonado Soriano. While the Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office opposed release, the defense sought bond. Metzler granted the $2,500 bond anyway, according to local reporting and a post by WJLA reporter Nick Minock.
