The United States and Iran are not currently holding talks to end the war, as Washington focuses on increasing economic pressure on Tehran. However, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday that President Donald Trump continues to keep all options “on the table.” Speaking to Fox News, Leavitt said Trump’s main objective remains preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. She said the administration had used “Operation Epic Fury” to target Iran’s military and was now pursuing “Operation Economic Outcast” to weaken the country’s economy.
Leavitt said negotiations are not taking place because Washington has yet to see Iran approach talks in what the administration considers a meaningful way. She added that the U.S. naval blockade remains in effect and that Trump continues to retain other options. Earlier this week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned countries to cut financial ties with Iran or risk secondary sanctions as part of what the administration described as “economic D-Day.” However, the Treasury Department stopped short of announcing new penalties.
