President Donald Trump is weighing limited new military strikes against Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz. The administration seeks to prevent Tehran from rebuilding radar and missile systems that could threaten shipping through the strategically vital waterway.
The potential strikes were outlined in a plan developed by U.S. Central Command and backed by War Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to Axios, which cited three U.S. officials familiar with the discussions. The plan emerged over the past week but had not been approved before the latest exchange of fire between the United States and Iran. The renewed fighting began Sunday when U.S. forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. officials said the launchers were being prepared for use in attacks on shipping and that Iranian forces were also preparing to deploy sea mines.
