President Donald Trump is set to meet Tuesday with U.S. oil refiners and fuel distributors to discuss ways to expand domestic refining capacity and lower gasoline prices, the White House confirmed Monday. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and National Energy Dominance Council Executive Director Jarrod Agen are also expected to attend, along with representatives from small, midsize, and large refiners and distributors, CNBC reported.
“President Trump is laser-focused on ensuring his successful energy dominance agenda translates into the most cost savings possible at the pump for consumers,” White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement to CNBC. Rogers said Trump will discuss ways to increase refining capacity, expand energy production across the supply chain, and lower prices for consumers. The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $4.08 on Monday, according to AAA. The national average has remained above $4 throughout August for the first time, putting the month on track to become the most expensive August on record, AAA said last week.
