Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., introduced eight articles of impeachment Tuesday against War Secretary Pete Hegseth, accusing him of helping carry out an unauthorized war against Iran and of other abuses of his authority. Massie, a frequent critic of President Donald Trump, introduced the impeachment resolution on the House floor, accusing Hegseth of “high crimes and misdemeanors” for his role in the administration’s military operations against Iran and of violating the War Powers Resolution.
Massie made the resolution privileged, a procedural move requiring the House to act on it within two legislative days. Republican leaders could seek to table the measure rather than allow a direct vote on impeachment, reports The Hill. Massie accused Hegseth of violating “his oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States” and “his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, especially with regard to the commission of war.” He also accused Hegseth of abusing the powers of the Department of War.
