Iran said Monday it struck U.S. military bases in Jordan in retaliation for an American attack on Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz after Washington said it acted to stop Iranian forces from laying sea mines. A U.S. official confirmed Iran launched several ballistic missiles at an American base in Jordan but said none struck U.S. facilities and there were no reports of damage or casualties.
Jordan’s military said its air defenses intercepted eight missiles fired from Iran. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said U.S. bases in Jordan had been used to support the strike on Larak Island, which Tehran said killed and wounded Iranian military personnel and civilians. Tehran warned it would respond “decisively” to any further U.S. military action and blamed Washington and countries supporting it for any escalation.
