Both Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) agreed that top artificial intelligence companies should not get antitrust relief to form some sort of private regulatory entity.
“From my point of view, and for the record, I want to be real clear on this, absolutely not,” Hawley said. “There is no world in which I will consent to giving the most powerful companies in the history of the world a small group of 3 or 4 of them, antitrust exemptions from our laws so that they can what, collude?”
“Absolutely no way that that is happening.”
Cruz, who has split from the populist Hawley on many AI issues, concurred.
“I will say the last 30 seconds of what he said, I agree with every syllable of every word of what he just said,” Cruz said. “And to watch AI CEOs saying, we’re about to destroy the world, so give us control of the government so we can lock in our monopoly status and prevent any innovators from challenging us is just lunacy.”
