Ardent maskers will tell you that masks are to protect OTHERS from your droplets, NOT to protect you from virus particles. Which doesn’t explain why someone would wear a mask on a hiking trail, while walking on the beach in a 10 knot breeze, or while riding a bike.
Any case, beware of ‘fack checking’ articles, like this one at Politifact, that imply this image circulating on social media is fake news. Facebook actually has been taking them down! But the fake news is on the other foot: Public health officials issuing misleading statements that cause many people to believe a mask protects the wearer when it plainly DOES NOT.
