Boy, 16, stabbed multiple times in parking lot of Marin County school, police say

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured Monday evening after he was attacked by a group of teenagers and stabbed multiple times in the parking lot of a Marin County school, officials said. Additionally, a 17-year-old boy was assaulted by the same group, the Novato Police Department said.

The police department said it received a report of a rowdy group of teenagers in the parking lot at Lynwood Elementary School at 6:50 p.m. on Oct. 24. Before police arrived, several teens took off in a car, leaving behind the injured 16-year-old, witnesses told the department.

Medics with the Novato Fire Protection District arrived on scene and provided medical aid to the 16-year-old while police checked the school, finding “evidence that an assault with a deadly weapon occurred,” the police department said.

The early investigation revealed that a 17-year-old had minor injuries, police said. He was released to his parents.

A school employee told police that she heard a fight and when she went to see what was happening, she saw a group of teenagers in the parking lot and the boy who was stabbed, Lt. Chris Jacob with the police department told SFGATE on the phone.

Lynwood serves grades kindergarten through fifth grade and none of the elementary school students were present at the time of the incident, police said.
