NEW YORK POST – MARK MOORE
The Trump administration on Thursday issued sanctions against 19 Russians in retaliation for meddling in the 2016 presidential election and for conducting other “destructive cyberattacks” on the country’s energy infrastructure.
“The administration is confronting and countering malign Russian cyberactivity, including their attempted interference in U.S. elections, destructive cyberattacks, and intrusions targeting critical infrastructure,” Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said in a statement. “These targeted sanctions are a part of a broader effort to address the ongoing nefarious attacks emanating from Russia.”
The administration is targeting five entities and 19 individuals for the penalties, including the Internet Research Agency, the St. Petersburg-based troll factory indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller.
