Congressman: I’ll reimburse taxpayers for sexual harassment settlement

NEW YORK POST – MARK MOORE

A Republican congressman from Texas said on Monday that he will reimburse taxpayers for the $84,000 his office used to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by his former spokeswoman.

“I’m going to hand a check over this week to probably Speaker Ryan, or somebody, and say ‘look, here’s the amount of my settlement, give it back to the taxpayers,’” Rep. Blake Farenthold told an NBC affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Lauren Greene sued Farenthold, a millionaire, in 2014 claiming one of his aides told her the congressman had “sexual fantasies” about her and often “drank to excess.”

When she complained, Greene said Farenthold fired her and she sued him for gender discrimination and sexual harassment.

The case was dropped after they reached an agreement.

The amount was never disclosed until last week when it was revealed that Farenthold – who is worth more than $5 million – used a taxpayer-funded office to pay the settlement.
