For Whom The Bell Tolls – It Tolls For Thee
Another one bites the dust. Another big name, shot down in flames. Matt Lauer is out at NBC over sexual allegations. His scalp is added to the list where you’ll find the likes of Charlie Rose, Glenn Thrush of the NY Times, Mark Halperin from NBC, David Corn of Mother Jones, Michael Oreskes of NPR, Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone, Louis CK, Ben Affleck, and of course Harvey Weinstein, among many others. And just as I was absorbing the Matt Lauer news, Minnesota public radio cut ties with Garrison Keillor over allegations of improper behavior. Why does this keep happening? Why does this left on left war continue?
Your first instinct should always be to follow the money. In nearly every contract with these big name celebrities and the entities they answer to, there is a ‘moral turpitude’ clause, or as many know it, ‘the Pee Wee Herman’ clause. He famously got caught doing things in a pornographic movie house and lost his living entertaining children as Pee Wee Herman. A moral turpitude clause might read something like:
“The Actor shall not commit any act or do anything which might tend to bring Actor into public disrepute, contempt, scandal, or ridicule, or which might tend to reflect unfavorably on the Network, any sponsor of a program, any such sponsor’s advertising agency, any stations broadcasting or scheduled to broadcast a program, or any licensee of the Network, or to injure the success of any use of the Series or any program. Employer will have the right to terminate this Agreement upon written notice to (celebrity) of the public disclosure of such conduct or alleged conduct. In the event of such termination of this Agreement, employer will have the right to nullify the terms of the agreement and refuse any further compensation.”
So if you follow the money, you could ask, are the institutions employing these people causing these charges to bubble up from within to help dump the incredibly large salaries due these celebrities? Lauer was reportedly making $20 million a year. Charlie Rose, in comparison, $2.5 million a year. That could be one reason. Those that can benefit financially may be trying to do just that and nothing more.
But regardless of the reason, should conservatives be celebrating every time another one of these left wing icons falls? The answer is no! Don’t they see it could be them next? It can be anyone right now. There is a witch hunt going on right now that knows no boundaries. It’s happening in the media, in Hollywood, and in the halls of Washington D.C. And all someone has to do is shout “J’accuse!” I said this to you earlier this month, the trials are being conducted on little screens on TV’s and your smart phones and on social media. Too many are being tried and convicted without anyone asking is there any evidence beyond J’accuse! There is a type of civil war going on here and the casualties are stacking up. And the rules of this war favor one side, and the fallout isn’t pretty. You may ask for whom the bell tolls. Well, it tolls for thee.
