DECIDER – JADE BUDOWSKI
Megyn Kelly Today is the embarrassing gift that keeps on giving. From on-air crew member expletives and plastic surgery confrontations to careless interruptions and casual homophobia, the entire production has carried on as if no one involved has ever made a television show before. Kelly’s cringeworthy streak continued this morning when a signal cut out during a live satellite interview, and the results, are, well – hard to watch.
During a segment about Rob Jones, a veteran with two prosthetic legs who plans to run 31 marathons in one month to raise money for charity, Kelly found herself flailing when Jones was unable to hear her questions. As seen in the video above (starting right around the 2:15 mark), Kelly wonders if running that many marathons is dangerous and asks Jones “is this safe?”
What follows – a long silence accompanied by a zoom in on Jones – is painfully awkward. He then tells her she cut out, and Kelly repeats the question. “Is this safe, to do 31 marathons in 31 days?” Jones doesn’t hear her again, and she again tries to get it across (this time, successfully), and tells her that the safety doesn’t matter to him – the cause is more important. The interview continues with a lag between each question and answer, but no more long, cringeworthy silences.
