DAILY MAIL – LYDIA WILLGRESS
A Caribbean mega-resort proposed by Robert De Niro has caused outrage after residents claimed it trampled citizens’ rights.
The £170million hotel, which is being planned by the actor and Australian billionaire James Packer, will be built on Barbuda.
The row was sparked after the island’s government passed the ‘Paradise Bill’, which includes incentives if the duo build the hotel including a 25-year tax holiday and a new airport so executive jets can land.
Residents claimed the new legislation, which was passed with a small majority, will affect the rights of an elected council to consider other developments.
