NEW YORK POST – TINA MOORE AND MAX JAEGER
The NYPD on Thursday released its first-ever body camera footage of a police-involved shooting — and it shows officers open fire when the man ignored repeated pleas to “drop the knife.”
The videos, filmed by cameras worn on four officers, shows from several angles the Sept. 6 shooting death of Miguel Antonio Richards, who threatened cops with a fake gun and real knife.
Cops from the 47th Precinct were conducting a wellness check inside Richards’s Bronx apartment after his landlord told police he was emotionally disturbed, Chief of Department Carlos Gomez said.
Footage shot by Officer Mark Fleming’s body cam shows Richards standing in the corner of a darkened room with one hand behind his back. Several cops can be heard repeatedly telling Richards to “put the knife down” and asking him what’s behind his back.
